Tasmania Skilled Migration Program 2025-26

Tasmania Skilled Migration Program 2025-26 has officially been updated with major improvements to make the nomination process clearer, fairer, and more transparent.

These updates, effective October 2025, include structural changes to the Migration Tasmania website, a new Application Gateway system, revised priority attributes, and updated eligibility requirements across all skilled migration pathways.

1. Website Restructure

The Migration Tasmania website has been redesigned for easier navigation. You can now quickly find details about:

  • Pathway eligibility requirements
  • Priority attributes
  • Application guidance and supporting documents

2. Application Gateway Overhaul

The Application Gateway now uses a simpler, more transparent system for the Registration of Interest (ROI) process.
Key changes:

  • A new checklist replaces the old question-answer format.
  • Applicants can now see their total ROI score, showing how competitive they are.
  • Case officers can request additional documents directly through the online system.

3. Priority Attributes & Scoring System for Tasmania Skilled Migration Program

  • Attributes have been rewritten in simpler language.
  • Each attribute now has a score showing its importance.
  • Applicants receive coloured passes:
    • Gold Pass (Score ≥ 1000): Eligible to apply immediately.
    • Green Pass (Score ≥ 250): Invited to apply within 6 months.
    • Orange Pass (< 250): May be invited depending on available places.

Higher scores favour graduates and established residents, highlighting Tasmania’s focus on retaining local talent.

4. Skilled Employment & Income Threshold for Tasmania Skilled Migration Program

Instead of ANZSCO skill levels, eligibility now depends on income:

  • You must earn at least $57,000 per year (or $28.85/hour) to claim key attributes.
  • Jobs below the national minimum wage are not eligible.

5. Gold Pass – Health, Allied Health & Education Roles

The Gold Pass now applies only to applicants working in health, allied health, or education professions, including school teaching roles.

6. Updated Eligibility by Pathway

Each pathway now has clearer and more consistent requirements:

  • Subclass 190 & 491 – Skilled Employment: Applicants must work in Tasmania for 9–15 months and earn at least 75% of TSMIT ($57,000/year).
  • Subclass 190 – Established Resident: May include remote workers and long-term residents.
  • Subclass 491 – Business Operator: Must show personal income of $65,037/year and business viability.
  • Subclass 190 – Overseas Applicants: Extended to include education-related occupations.
  • Subclass 491 Overseas Job Offer pathway: Closed due to misuse and delays.

7. Clearer Documentation and Contractor Rules

  • Fewer mandatory documents required.
  • Income proof must now come from ATO Income Statements and bank transactions.
  • Contractors can claim employment-related priority attributes but not business operator ones.

8. Review Requests

Applicants now have 30 days to request a review of a nomination decision.

9. What These Changes Mean

Tasmania’s new system focuses on clarity, fairness, and attracting long-term skilled residents. The revised structure makes it easier for migrants and businesses to understand what’s required — and to plan their applications more confidently.
