WA General Stream - WASMOL Schedule 1 Occupation list and Requirements

2. Skills Assessment Requirements

To be accepted for WA State Nomination:

  • Your skills assessment must perfectly match the occupation you nominate in your EOI.
  • Important Note: A provisional skills assessment issued for a Subclass 485 (Temporary Graduate) visa application will not be accepted. You must hold a full skills assessment for migration purposes.

3. Work Experience Requirement

You must have either:

  • 1 Year Experience: You must have at least 1 year Australian or Overseas Work experience.
  • No Combining: You cannot combine Australian and overseas experience to make up the 1-year requirement.
  • Closely Related: “Closely related” means the job shares the first four digits of your nominated occupation’s ANZSCO code.
  • Valid Experience: It must be post-qualification, paid employment, working at least 20 hours per week. Professional years or unpaid placements do not count unless they meet these exact rules.
  • Evidence: You must provide comprehensive payslips (including ABN, pay period, tax withheld) and a detailed letter from your employer.

When you are invited to apply for WA State Nomination, you must prove you have relevant work experience in your nominated (or closely related) occupation over the last 10 years.

4. Contract of Employment (Subclass 190 Only)

If you are applying for the Subclass 491 visa, a contract of employment is NOT required.

However, if you are applying for the permanent Subclass 190 visa, you must provide a valid contract of employment in WA.

Contract Requirements:

  • Must be in your nominated (or closely related) occupation.
  • Must be for full-time employment (an average of at least 35 hours per week) in Western Australia. (You can provide two concurrent contracts to make up the 35 hours).
  • Must be for at least six months from the date of your nomination application.
  • Must be drafted by the employer and include full details: names, job description, ANZSCO code, location, and terms/conditions (salary, superannuation) that match Australian market rates.
  • Must include a statement confirming the work will be performed by you and not contracted out.

Self-Employment & Contractors: Independent contractor agreements, self-employment, and sole trader contracts are generally not suitable for WA State Nomination. The only exception is if you are employed by a sole trader (and you are not the sole trader yourself).

5. English Language Proficiency

You must demonstrate Competent English. WA requires you to achieve the minimum required scores in all four components (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) in a single test sitting.

Important Updates to English Tests: The accepted scores depend on when you took your test.

6. Department of Home Affairs Baseline

In addition to WA’s state criteria, you must meet the Department of Home Affairs’ baseline requirements for your intended visa. This includes age, points (minimum 65), character, and health requirements for either the Skilled Nominated visa (Subclass 190) or the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (Subclass 491).

Meeting the baseline criteria is just the beginning. Securing a state nomination is a highly competitive process, and a single mistake with your work experience evidence or employment contract can result in a refusal.
