WASMOL Schedule 2 - WA General Stream occupation and requirements

2. Valid Skills Assessment

You are required to provide a positive, full skills assessment for your nominated occupation when you lodge your Expression of Interest (EOI).

Migration WA will not accept a provisional skills assessment (such as those issued for the Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate visa).

3. Employment Contract (Subclass 190 Applicants Only)

Your requirement to provide a job offer depends entirely on which visa subclass you are applying for:

  • Subclass 491 (Provisional) Applicants: You do NOT need a contract of employment to apply.
  • Subclass 190 (Permanent) Applicants: You must secure a valid, full-time employment contract based in Western Australia. (Note: Applicants invited under a WA building and construction industry sector occupation (as listed on the WA State Nomination Occupation Lists) are not required to provide a contract of employment)

Rules for your WA Employment Contract (190 Visa):

  • It must be for full-time work (averaging a minimum of 35 hours per week). Tip: You are allowed to combine two concurrent contracts to reach this 35-hour minimum.
  • The role must be in your nominated occupation (or a closely related field).
  • The contract must be valid for at least 6 months starting from the date you submit your nomination application.
  • It must be officially drafted by your employer, detailing standard Australian market salary and superannuation, a clear job description, location, and the correct ANZSCO code.
  • The contract must confirm you are a direct employee. Independent contractors, sole traders, and self-employment arrangements are generally not accepted (unless you are a direct employee of a sole trader).

4. English Language Requirements

Applicants must prove they have at least Competent English. You will need to achieve the required minimum scores across all four bands (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking) in a single testing session.

Passport Exemptions: You are exempt from taking an English test if you hold a valid passport from the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland. (British National Overseas passports do not qualify).

5. Department of Home Affairs (DHA) Baseline

Meeting WA state rules is only half the battle. You must also satisfy the basic federal criteria set by the Department of Home Affairs. This includes being under the age limit, scoring a minimum of 65 points on the migration points test, and passing all necessary health and character checks for the Subclass 190 or 491 visa.

Great News: No Work Experience Required!

Unlike Schedule 1, the WASMOL Schedule 2 stream does not require you to demonstrate any prior work experience to be eligible for state nomination. This makes it a fantastic option for recently skilled professionals who have their full skills assessment but haven’t yet built up years of employment history.
