Migration Tasmania has released important updates to the Tasmania State Nomination Program 2025-26, including pathway adjustments, scoring changes, and Christmas/New Year shutdown information. These updates affect applicants considering nomination for the Subclass 190 and Subclass 491 visas.
Below is a complete summary of all changes and what they mean for prospective applicants.
Following internal program evaluation and employer/industry feedback, several minor but important adjustments have been introduced for Tasmania State Nomination Program. These changes aim to refine scoring clarity and improve alignment between applicant experience and skill relevance.
Existing ROIs will not be affected by these changes unless stated.
Old requirement (30 points):
Employment of 12–18 months in Tasmania in a role directly related to your skills assessment, with earnings of $57,000+ per year or $28.85/hr.
New setting:
The points for this attribute have been increased from 30 to 35 to better recognise applicants with longer-term, skill-relevant employment in Tasmania.
Previous wording created confusion with the Orange-Plus attribute.
Updated attribute:
You have two years of relevant Australian industry experience and currently earn more than the National Minimum Wage, but less than $57,000 per year (or $28.85/hr).
This update clearly distinguishes the Orange attribute from the Orange-Plus category.
Note:
Only new ROIs are impacted.
Any ROI already submitted that claimed both attributes will still receive full recognition.
Applicants may now claim this attribute whether or not they have commenced their graduate program, as long as:
This adjustment provides greater flexibility for graduates who have secured strong employment pathways shortly after completing their studies.
To remove ambiguity, the requirement now clearly states:
Applicants must have operated a Tasmanian business for at least two years, generating:
This ensures business operators demonstrate both sustainability and genuine economic contribution.
To be eligible for Tasmanian nomination:
This rule ensures applicants have a genuine commitment to living in Tasmania.
Migration Tasmania will close from 12:00 pm on Wednesday, 24 December 2025, and reopen on Friday, 2 January 2026.
During this period:
Migration Tasmania has extended festive wishes to all applicants and stakeholders.
Minor adjustments were introduced to scoring attributes for the 491 Skilled Employment pathway, the Skilled Graduate pathway, and the business requirements under the 190 Established Resident pathway.
